Easter in the Spreewald
Easter is one of the oldest Christian annual celebrations. It is connected to many customs at the sorbish people and wendish people. We would like to introduce some of this to you here. Easter is the awakening of the nature, the beginning of the springtime.
Easter eggs symbolize the vitality waking up in the Spreewald, decorated artistically. 2 to 3 adorned Easter eggs are always part of the godfather presents for children. Today, numerous easter traditions are still cared for. So the "Waleien" is still part of a popular easter tradition of the children. In the night on the Easter Sunday the Easterfire burns in many places of the Spreewald. They shall ban the winter definitely.
